Tessa Lass Named Educator Of The Week

Expecting nothing less than their best, one Hometown Teacher is pushing her students to strive for excellence. Newscenter 25’s Steve Broussard visited the class room of Tessa Lass, Educator of the Week, at Victoria East High School.
She is considered by some to be firm and direct, but she is also caring and supportive. 9th grade teacher Tessa Lass at Victoria East High School instructs 130 students a day in Pre-Advancement English Class. Students are being drilled on the use of words that will be part of a SAT Test.
Students are preparing index cards to use as flash cards, so they can study and memorize them until it is a part of their vocabulary.
"One of the things I like most about Miss Lass is her way she interacts with me and helps me learn more about the English language," said student Mathew Edge.
Another of her students, Landon Bretz, commented that, "Every day that I come in here, she has a positive attitude and she makes everyone here have a positive attitude. It just helps you get thru the day being around her.”
Although she pushes the limit of her students, she explains to her students why they must work hard and study hard. Letting them know that it is not just a task, but a foundation for the future. However, she treats all of her students like they were her own children.
"Too many kids today are not ready for College once they graduate from High School, even advanced kids. This is one of my personal coals for the classroom. Especially when it comes to writing, I need to step it up for them,” explained Educator of the Week, Tessa Lass.
"Miss Lass, she is so nice. When we come in, she always greets us, and makes us feel like we are part of the family. She is my favorite teacher," said student Stephanie Heinold.
